Gardening Tips
Welcome to our comprehensive gardening guide! When you first bring your plant home, it's crucial to understand its specific lighting and soil needs. Most indoor tropical plants thrive in bright, indirect light. Placing them too close to a sunny window can scorch their leaves, while putting them in a dark corner will stunt their growth.
Always ensure your pots have proper drainage holes. Soil preparation is key—use a well-aerated potting mix with perlite or orchid bark to prevent the roots from suffocating. Remember to wipe the dust off your plant's leaves with a damp cloth every few weeks; this helps them photosynthesize more efficiently!
Watering Tips
Watering is the number one area where new plant parents struggle. The golden rule: It is always better to underwater than to overwater! Roots need oxygen just as much as they need water.
Seasonal Watering Changes:
- Summer: During the active growing season, plants drink water quickly. Check the soil every few days. Water deeply until it runs out the drainage holes, preferably early in the morning so the excess evaporates during the heat of the day.
- Rainy Season/Monsoon: Humidity is high and evaporation is slow. Cut back on watering significantly to prevent root rot and fungal infections.
- Winter: Most plants go dormant. They stop growing and require very little water. Only water when the top 2-3 inches of the soil are completely bone dry.
Always use your finger to test the soil moisture before reaching for the watering can!
